Langstone Harbour Advisory Forum meeting:

The commodore and I went to a very interesting meeting at the beginning of the month where we learnt about the latest projects to introduce oysters back into Langstone Harbour and growing sea grass. You may have seen these being talked about on BBC Country File.

You can find out more about these here:

Sea buckthorn planting and Litter Pick:

At the end of April we had a successful morning planting Sea Buckthorn and doing a litter pick. Hopefully the sea buckthorn will take and provide a good screen plus add more biodiversity for the club. Thanks to Gerry Woods picking up a huge bagful the day before, we didn't have as much litter to pick up as we might have done, but there was still more than there should have been. Although, generally the area where the cruisers had been showed how most boats are putting tarpaulin underneath when antifouling, there were still a couple of areas that showed a lot of paint scrapings and some areas where there was a lot of antifouling on the stones. As we become more aware of the damage antifouling does to our precious wildlife we do need to make sure that we aren't spilling any.

Water sampling and Spotlight project

Water sampling was carried out over 5 days at 17 locations in Chichester and Langstone harbour early in the month, this included local samples near Budds Farm in Langstone harbour and at the end of the Wade way at low tide. These samples have been sent off to Brunel University hopefully the results of what chemicals are in our water will be available in June. Meanwhile watchout for a news item on the sampling on the BBC Breakfast and BBC 4 Today program over the next few weeks.
