Seasons Greetings from our Commodore
Published 19:06 on 10 Dec 2024
Season 's greetings to all members. I hope you are all looking forward to another sailing season, hoping that the weather will be a bit kinder than last year.
As your new Commodore I would like to introduce myself. I bought a GP14 and joined the club in 1988. 18 years later I bought a Westerly Konsort cruiser, RESTLESS OF LANGSTONE. For much of the last 14 years I have been on the General Committee, as Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Vice Commodore.
The club's aim is to be a friendly and affordable sailing community offering excellent facilities and an active programme for all levels of sailors. In a couple of years' time the club will celebrate its 80th year. We have an enviable position, overlooking 2 harbours in what is generally a sheltered spot. If only we were not limited by the tide, it would be perfect.
In addition to providing facilities for dinghy sailing we also provide moorings for 77 cruises and winter storage for a few more. In recent year we have taken on paddle boards, canoes and rowing and have a fleet of vessels for members to use.
We also have an active social side. In addition to the bar and galley we have an active darts team and have run a pool tournament. There are regular music nights, and music jam sessions. We have even run dance lessons and Pilates classes.
Please make use of the facilities we have provided. It really is a matter of "use it or lose it". This is your club. Everything we do depends on members' support.
