Successful first paddling event last Sunday 14th June, the weather was perfect! We met some Cobnor participants coming back to the club as we were out. Enjoy Stewarts photos below.

Next date is Sat 20th June - alongside Try a Boat event.
Then it is - a moonlit paddle, on Fri 26th June ! Bring a headtorch or suitable light and experience paddling in darkness!

With summer on the horizon, it's time to look forward to some more stable weather, light winds and paddling! To help provide some focus, we have put some entries in the club calendar, generally where the tide times correspond with bar or galley opening - allowing a social paddle and visit to the bar. These are not supported events - we don't have any paddling instructors in the club, and there is no safety boat cover (we are often in water too shallow to allow the safety boats to accompany us) - simply an opportunity to get together to paddle in company.

The first date is Sun 14th June - and the long-range forecast is looking fairly favourable.
Something new this year - a moonlit paddle, on Fri 26th June ! Bring a headtorch or suitable light and experience paddling in darkness! If that is a step too far then look out for the sunset paddles - witness the sunset from the water at the end of the paddle then be ashore before it really gets dark. We will add more events into the calendar based on feedback and requests from yourselves...

The big problem of course for organising paddling outings is not knowing availability or what the weather is going to be doing - often going paddling is a last-minute decision. That is where the paddling forum on the website is so powerful - if you want to go for a paddle in company and there is nothing on the calendar then post on the forum - see if other people were thinking the same thing! Or perhaps you are training for an event and want company as you build the distances ? I personally will be looking for still mornings when the tide is right to get out before the seabreeze cuts in - and preparing for a round-Hayling paddle on both a kayak and a SUP... We also use the forum for last-minute communication about events.

There is now also a distribution list for paddlers - once enough people have subscribed, emails for paddlers will go to that list, so add yourself to it today !

As a reminder:

  • The club has 4 paddleboards and 3 kayaks available for hire to members - details of how to book here : https://langstonesc.org.uk/sailing/booking-boat-paddlecraft
  • The club has racks for paddleboards and kayaks so you don't have to keep your kit at home (but they are chargeable - if you want a space, or have a kayak/SUP on the racks and aren't currently paying please contact: dinghyberthing@langstonesc.org.uk )
  • You should wear a buoyancy aid and use a leash if on a SUP
  • Harbour dues are payable in both harbours for paddlers
  • more guidance on staying safe while paddling at LSC can be found here: LSC Paddlesports(especially the Safe Paddling Plan)

If you have questions, or even better, suggestions, then please contact : paddlesports@langstonesc.org.uk

Happy Paddling !

As we have for the last few years, there will be dates going in the calendar that are good for paddling (when the bar and/or galley are open on return!). These are not organised and supported sessions, but allow our paddlers to have some prompts to get them out on the water in company.
The key element of the LSC paddling offering is the
Paddling forumon the website - any member can access it and make suggestions or ask questions. If you know you want to go paddling in advance and want company, put it on the forum! This allows us to take advantage of the best weather at short notice.
