This session is primarily aimed at members who wish to hire club boats in the future.
Come along and learn how to:
- Book the boats
- Find the equipment
- Rig the dinghies
- Try the boats
- Put the equipment away
To hire a dinghy you must have at least RYA dinghy level 1 & 2 or proven equivalent experience. We can arrange for someone to accompany you if you are rusty or need a bit of reassurance.

Please meet in the boat shed at 2pm
Dinghies rigging at 2pm, change then on the water 3:30pm
SUPs/Kayaks please come changed, we will collect the equipment then go immediately on the water
Please bring suitable clothing (wetsuit and buoyance aid for dinghies, suitable clothing (wetsuit recommended) and buoyancy aids for SUPS/kayaks. There are buoyancy aids to borrow in the boat shed and a limited selection of wetsuits too.
Note: If you plan to hire a club boat in future please read the Terms and conditions of hire here. All boats/craft cost £10 a session if an adult is in the boat and free if used solely by children (Note: No charge for this try a boat event).

- Wednesday 23 June Evening Race, World Cup theme (pick a sail of your favourite country from the club's selection and hang it from your boat) then watch the match in the bar afterwards
- Friday 26 June Moonlit paddle
- Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June Summer weekend series
- Sunday 12 July Summer long distance race
- Saturday 18 July Wild Goose Chase with Tudor and Locks Sailing Clubs.
Langstone is running it this year and hopes to run it as a pursuit race.
Duties
We urgently need people to volunteer for on the water duties, otherwise some events may need to be cancelled, so HEREif you can please do volunteer. Generally, we need:
- Race Officer runs the race. Competitors can help to select the course. Full training can be provided - please email sailingsec@langstonesc.org.uk. Ideally should be able to confidently use and anchor Sinbad.
- Race Officer Assistant helps the Race Officer with times, flags, hooters. No experience required. Ideal start if you could be a Race Officer in the future.
- Patrol Boat Driver Manages launching and Recovery of the Rib. Keeps an eye on members participating in club events and assists if boats / sailors require help, such as towing and helping right boats. Also helps lay racing marks as directed by the Race Officer. Must be RYA Power Boat qualified (or proven equivalent experience) and have attended a familiarisation session with our Boson, Ian Elkington.
- Patrol Boat Assistant helps the Patrol Boat driver to keep an eye on participants and lay marks. Must be dressed to go in the water in the unlikely case required.
