Commodores News - February 2025
Published 09:55 on 12 Feb 2025
The evenings are becoming lighter which means the sailing season will soon be upon us. Over the winter months we have seen a few activities to taking us through the dark winter days. These include Music Nights; Music Jams; Darts and Pool competitions; Modern Jive lessons; Pilates Classes; Sunday Lunch and the relaunch of Saturday food
Currently there is a lot of activity getting ready for the new season. The Club dinghies and support boats are all being prepared. The pontoon, after 9 years of service has been lifted and is being repaired. The changing rooms are getting a deep-clean. Please get involved if you can there are lots of opportunities to complete your duties.
The club is managed by the General Committee. Details of committee members and other club officials can be found on the website HERE (more details are shown if you are logged-in). Also available on the website is the latest news and club calendar. We also send out occasional emails. To receive these, you must subscribe to the appropriate mailing lists by clicking here. If you want more details or information about any of the activities, please contact the appropriate committee member. We are looking into ways of improving communications with members - If you have any ideas as to how we can do this, or get involved in a series of workshops, please let us know.
Over the years we have seen some diversity in the on-the-water activities. Whilst remaining primarily a sailing club, we have encouraged other sports including kayaking, stand-up-paddleboarding and rowing. A lot of clubs in the harbour now have a flourishing rowing section, and LSC has its own skiff which is available for club use. We were approached by the Langstone Cutters Rowing Club and asked if we would consider allowing their members to join LSC and bring their fleet of cutters. After discussions between the two clubs, LCRC decided against integration.
Finally, a plea to everyone preparing their boats for the summer season Please clean up. Don't leave any rubbish around your boat. This includes sanding and antifouling (which should be captured on a sheet and taken away); small scrap items such as screws, cable-ties, wood chips, rope offcuts and so on. Don't leave it for someone else to clear up after you.
Looking forward to an active sailing season
John Bassford, Commodore
