For those of you who are looking for excitement this summer while you enjoy your staycation you can always take part in Chichester Harbour Race Week.

After a Covid break last year, the event is back again this year and will be held form Monday Aug 9 to Friday August 13 2021 and is based at Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC).

While being based at HISC Chichester harbour Race Week is organised by Chichester Harbour Federation of which Langstone SC is a member.Click HERE

The Regatta caters for all classes of mono hull dinghies and it's one of the few events where club dinghy racers can compete with very experienced international class sailors.

Traditionally Langstone has supported the events in both from a sailing capacity and support capacity. In the support capacity LSC has donated Sinbad as a support boat and over the years many of our members have had key roles in the race office.

During the week Sinbad is based at HISC and plays a key role in being a "Mark" boat. This involves anchoring off one of the race marks and recording the boats as they round that marks, it may sound dull, but we get great view of the racing and if it's windy we may be the home for a dinghy or two. (The safety team may view it's safer for us to tow boats back at the end of the race rather than take a Rib out of action while towing something back). The team on Sinbad also act's as the "Eyes" for the Race Officer and Safety team in our area of the race course and the records we produce often help resolve issues such as did the boat actually sail the correct course and can provide on the water information to the race team and the safety team

On the Sunday before the racing week Sinbad will escort any boats who want to sail from Langstone to HISC.

CHRW is always looking for volunteers On each of the days racing we need a team of 3 to manage Sinbad. The safety team utilises as many Ribs as they can get their hands on This usually means the harbour clubs donating safety boats and members of sailing clubs who have their own Ribs providing extra safety cover. Those people who volunteer get a meal voucher to be used at HISC, an invite to the helper'scocktail party and for those that can help for 3 days or more you get the prized "CHRW Race Team" sweatshirt A different colour each year.

If you want to sail in the event online entry opens on the 1stMay. We expect the entries to be high this year and there is a maximum capacity. If you want to participate then get your entry in early to avoid disappointment!

Lastly, if you're interested in helping with the Regatta, please let me know and can provide your name to the Regatta Committee.

Press Release 22nd April

Chichester Harbour Race Week

After a year off due to COVID, Chichester Harbour race week is back on for August 2021. The regatta is one of the largest sailing dinghy regattas in the country and with many people choosing to take their holidays in the UK this year, it is expected to produce a bumper turnout of over 400 boats. The inter-club team trophy is keenly fought with the top 5 boats selected from each of the harbourclubs and several visiting clubs.

Off the water, the regatta has become well known for its social events. This year promises a steel band and beach barbecue, beer and skittles at the beautiful old mill-house at EmsworthSlipper SC, a pub quiz at Mengeham Rythe SC, and the perennial Hayling Island Sailing Club disco.
