11th June Anchoring
Today's focus is on anchoring. Anchoring is an essential part of boating, but do you know were our sensitive habitats are? We have Seagrass beds and Maerl beds all round the solent and obviously further afield too. Please have a look at the following link from The Green Blue to see where the sensitive areas are and how we can ensure best practice is adopted by us all to help minimise any impact anchoring activities can have on these sensitive habitats. https://thegreenblue.org.uk/you-your-boat/info-adv...
10th June : Boating around wildlife
Here are a few m ore tips from The Green Blue that focus on other things we can do around our wildlife when we are on the water.
There are lots of other booklets on The Green Blue website that you can download. Some are available as hard copies in the sailing club, but please do let me know if you are interested in us getting more copies or if you are happy to read them online then they can be found here: https://thegreenblue.org.uk/resources/boat-user-re...
9th June : Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards
Following on from yesterday, Chichester Harbour Conservancy have also produced a leaflet 'Enjoying Paddlesports and protecting the environment'. This has lots of very good advice for canoes, kayaks and paddle boards but also has as great map of where our sensitive wildlife areas are. Again please do have a read. https://www.conservancy.co.uk/assets/files/cms_ite...
8th June : The Solent Seals code of conduct
Wildlife and their habitats in and around Chichester Harbour are under constant pressure from factors such as climate change, development and disturbance from human activity. As sailors, paddle enthusiasts and those working in marine industries, we have a duty to protect wildlife and enhance the environment. We share the waters we use for our recreation with an amazing array of wildlife, and the presence of boats should not necessarily have to mean disturbance to them.
Chichester Harbour Conservancy have produced an awareness leaflet about seals please take time to read it and help protect the wildlife and biodiversity especially at this time of year when there are breeding birds and later in the summer - seal pups.
