Harbour Dues 2026
Published 11:02 on 11 Feb 2026
Langstone Sailing Club has a fortunate location, being astride two harbours. The boundary between the harbours is the old railway bridge, and so all our moorings and the slipways are in Chichester Harbour. We pay our harbour dues to Chichester Conservancy. Langstone Harbour Boad receives no income from us, so we have, until now, been able to use Langstone Harbour for free. There used to be an understanding between the harbourmasters that boats with a harbour plaque for one harbour could use both harbours, but this agreement has long since expired.
Unfortunately, both Harbours are now under economic pressure. In particular, Langstone HarbourBoard is obliged to raise income from all users of the Harbour, including Langstone Sailing Club. We have been in discussion with both harbourmasters and tried to come to an agreement whereby Chichester would continue to collect dues from and make a payment on our behalf to Langstone. This had the full agreement of both harbourmasters and would not have cost us anything. Unfortunately, when this proposal was put to the Chichester Harbour Board it was rejected.
The effect of this is that going forward, if we wish to continue using Langstone Harbour we will have to pay harbour dues to Langstone Harbour Board as well as continuing to pay Chichester Conservancy. Langstone Harbour has agreed that if Langstone Sailing Club manages the collection of dues from its members we will receive a 50% reduction in the fees paid. Also, Chichester Harbour has agreed to a 25% reduction for cruisers moored between the bridges.
The Langstone Harbour fees for 2026/27 (taking into account the 50% reduction) are:

** This option is exclusive to Langstone Sailing Club and is only applicable for Langstone Sailing Club vessels moored east of the Hayling Island Road bridge to transit between the Langstone Sailing club and its mooring. It permits a maximum of two entries into Langstone Harbour per billing season (AprilMarch), and only one Double Daily plaque may be purchased for a vessel per billing season. Any additional entries will be liable for standard harbour charges. Langstone Harbour reserves the right to determine if a plaque has been misused and can apply penalties if necessary.
It is recommended for skippers moored on the east side of the road bridge who are unsure of how many visits to Langstone Harbour they are likely to make, to consider purchasing a relevant Club Compound Harbour Charge which provides unlimited entries into Langstone Harbour during a billing season.
Chichester Harbour recognises that cruisers moored between the bridges cannot access the harbour and has agreed to a 25% discount for these boats.
Langstone Harbour dues will be collected by LSC and passed on to Langstone Harbour Board. Plaques will be issued. Chichester harbour will continue to be paid by boat owner directly to Chichester Harbour Conservancy.
The impact of this on LSC members is as follows:
- A cruiser (9.01m-10m) moored to the West of the road bridge ("Langstone Side")
You will continue to pay Chichester Harbour Dues, but will receive a 25% discount reducing the dues for a 10m boat from £124.71 to £93.72.
In addition, you will pay £61.80 Langstone Harbour Dues and you will be issued with a Langstone Harbour plaque.
- A cruiser (9.01m-10m) moored to the East of the road bridge ("Chichester Side")
You will continue to pay Chichester Harbour Dues of £124.71
In addition you will pay a "Double Daily rate" of £10. This will be collected by LSC and paid to LHB. A Special Langstone Plaque will be issued, and boat names will be reported to the harbourmaster. Boats which drop their masts and come under the road bridge will not be liable for Langstone Harbour dues unless they pass through the railway bridge.
Cruisers wishing to visit or pass through Langstone Harbour more than twice a year must pay either the daily rate for each visit, or. the annual rate.
- Dinghies stored in the club compound wishing to sail in Langstone Harbour.
You will continue to pay Chichester Harbour Dues
In addition you will pay £31.20 Langstone Harbour Dues.
- Paddle Boards, Kayaks etc.
You will continue to pay Chichester Harbour Dues
In addition you will pay £8.60 Langstone Harbour Dues.
Dingies, and Paddleboards etc. not wishing to sail in Langstone Harbour need not pay Langstone Harbour dues. However, should you subsequently do sail west of the Railway bridge you will be liable for the daily rate of £9.70. This should be paid directly to Langstone Harbour Board.
Unfortunately, this was not decided until after we had prepared our own invoices for 2026. Boat owners will be asked whether they intend to use Langstone Harbour or not and if so, will be issued with a 2nd invoice. The club will notify Chichester Harbour the boats moored between the bridges so that the 25% discount can be applied.
We regret the late notice of this change. It will take additional work on our part to manage the collection of dues, and we may look for a club member to take on this role as their duty.
Next Steps
Chichester Conservancy will continue collecting harbour dues. You will receive invoices from the Conservancy who will issue plaques.
LSC will collect harbour dues and issue plaques on behalf of Langstone Harbour as follows:
1. Cruisers on club moorings Langstone Side
Invoices will be sent out in March for the boats on club moorings for Langstone Harbour Dues. Langstone Harbour Plaques will be available for collection during the lift out period..
2. Cruisers on club moorings Chichester Side
Invoices will be sent out in March for all the boats on club moorings for Langstone Harbour Dues. Boats which drop their masts and come under the road bridge will still beinvoiced, if you don't venture to the west of the railway blocks the invoice will be cancelled. If this is the case please contact the Membership Secretary to cancel the invoice. Langstone Harbour Plaques will be available for collection during the lift out period.
3. Cruisers not on Club Moorings
Cruisers, not on club moorings, will have to pay Langstone Harbour and Chichester Harbour the appropriate day rates
4. Dinghies, Kayaks and Paddleboards
The process for managing Harbour Plaques for dinghies still needs to be resolved. A volunteer is required to manage this process.
5. The club will continue to discuss and challenge this issue with the harbour masters of Chichester and Langstone.
