LSC Management Positions
Published 10:57 on 19 Apr 2026
There are several management positions which are either vacant or which will become vacant in the next year with no members stepping forward to take on these roles. The club cannot continue to function if these roles remain vacant and so I am appealing to all members to consider whether they are able to join the management team.
Unlike some clubs in the area Langstone Sailing Club is entirely run by volunteers which enable us to provide sailing opportunities to all members at reasonable prices. If we cannot find members to volunteer for these roles, we will have no option but to employ staff to manage key areas of the club. This would result in a significant increase in fees to enable us to pay wages. This is not an avenue we wish to explore as it will destroy the self-help nature of the club.
The posts in question are:
- Secretary This position has been vacant since 2024, and the work carried out by the Commodore who is stepping down this year. The Secretary performs the role of Company Secretary of Langstone Sailing Club Limited
- Vice Commodore This position is currently held by Stewart Johnson who, subject to election at the Autumn AGM, will be stepping up to Commodore. The Vice Commodore supports the Commodore and is expected to take on the Commodore role in due course.
- Rear Commodore House Ray Watterson is stepping down this year. Rear Commodore House is responsible for the "off the water" estate and supported by the House Committee in the running of the galley and social events.
- Assistants Membership Secretary The Membership Secretary administers the club membership records and invoices members for the club services that they use.The role of the assistant is to help manage the administration of Sailing Club Manager (SCM) and the accounting system, Quickbooks. It is expected that the Assistant will take on the Membership Secretary role in autumn 2027.
The Flag Officer positions will be elected at the Autumn AGM and should have experience of the club organisation and processes.
There will also be opportunities for members to stand for General Committee at the AGM. Further details of the roles can be found on the Vacancy page of the club website at
Vacancies : Langstone Sailing Club.
Please consider what you can offer the club. We have a small number of dedicated volunteers who keep the club running, but without the management roles the club cannot continue in its present form.
