Looking back, I realise I haven't issued a Comm's Comms since October 2019. That was the last time we sent out a Newsletter, something I greatly miss. In 2020 it has perhaps been a good thing as, like most publications this year it would concentrate on cancellations because of Covid not the sort of positive picture we were accustomed to in Newsletters.

The main reason for the lack of Newsletters has been the retirement of some key people who worked exceptionally hard to produce it almost every month, which brings me to my subject this month: key people.

Those of you who visit the website regularly or who attended our online AGM in October will have noticed that General Committee is low on numbers currently. We have two vacancies for elected Committee members and we are seeking a Rear Commodore Admin. These are key positions which need to be filled as soon as possible if we are to keep the club running successfully.

Although the AGM has now passed, we wish to co-opt members to fill the gaps. Their positions would then be confirmed at the February AGM.

Any full member is eligible for General Committee, whether you have served on Committee before or not, whether you live round the corner or further afield, whether you sail a dinghy or a cruiser or you are the non-sailing parent or partner of a sailor.

As a member of GC you are exempt from duties, but can expect to be given responsibility for an important role. Areas where we particularly need help at present are in environmental issues, juniors, social events, catering, marketing and of course administration. If you have the skills or interest in any of these areas or another subject you feel would be useful, please get in touch with me at commodore@langstonesc.org.uk or talk to any General Committee member. You will find a list on the website perhaps you know one of them and could ring for a chat?

The Rear Commodore Admin post is particularly important to the club. As a Flag Officer you are a vital part of the running of the organisation and ideally should have been a member of the club for a few years and have an understanding of how it runs. We are looking for a confident, organized person who will work closely together with the Hon Sec, Treasurer and other officers. Again, contact me if you wish to chat about it and I can send you a Job Description.

These are difficult and challenging times for us all. We are planning a busy summer for 2021 within whatever Covid rules may apply and we need your help. Please get in touch if you can.
