Following on from the sad news of the demise of Queen Elizabeth II the nation has entered a period of mourning. Many sporting activities have been cancelled or postponed as a result, including activities at some local sailing clubs.

The club ensign has been flying at half-mast since 9th September, apart from a 24-hour period to mark the accession. As it is impractical to half-mast the ensign on most yachts a black ribbon may be flown with the ensign.

The club bar will continue to open at scheduled times, but the galley will remain closed until after the funeral.

A scaled down Bart's Bash took place on Saturday 10th September. The intention was to come together as a sailing community to remember Her Majesty. Inspired by her spirit, strength, and resilience over the years of her reign, we joined together to commemorate her life of service to the nation.

The Bembridge rally scheduled for 13th to 15th September will take place, including the barbeque in the marquee on Tuesday and the meal at the Vine Inn on Wednesday. A 1-minute silence will be observed at the start of the barbeque.

There will be no club activity on the day of the funeral (Monday 19th). The bar will not open

We are comfortable that all this is in line with Palace, Government and RYA guidance.

We will never forget Queen Elizabeth, and her legacy will live on for generations to come.

On behalf of everyone at Langstone Sailing Club we send our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family.
