11th June Anchoring
Today's focus is on anchoring. Anchoring is an essential part of boating, but do you know were our sensitive habitats are? We have Seagrass beds and Maerl beds all round the solent and obviously further afield too. Following on from yesterday, Chichester Harbour Conservancy have also produced a leaflet 'Enjoying Paddlesports and protecting the environment'. This has lots of very good advice for canoes, kayaks and paddle boards but also has as great map of where our sensitive wildlife areas are. 8th June : The Solent Seals code of conduct
Wildlife and their habitats in and around Chichester Harbour are under constant pressure from factors such as climate change, development and disturbance from human activity. As sailors, paddle enthusiasts and those working in marine industries, we have a duty to protect wildlife and enhance the environment. We share the waters we use for our recreation with an amazing array of wildlife, and the presence of boats should not necessarily have to mean disturbance to them.
Chichester Harbour Conservancy have produced an awareness leaflet about seals please take time to read it and help protect the wildlife and biodiversity especially at this time of year when there are breeding birds and later in the summer - seal pups.
