SUNDAY 19th JULY

LSC are happy to announce the first supported dinghy event of the 2020 season - The Langstone TT !!

The Langstone TT is a new event perfect for our strange covid-era. It is :
    • A Time Trial around a course of fixed marks in Langstone Harbour
    • A perfect shake-down sail - no-pressure start, no fixed start time, multiple attempts as you perfect your rigging and technique
    • No start time, you can launch at will and repeat the course as many times as you like to try and improve your time (HW is 11:37 so sailing hours are approx 9:30 - 13:30)
    • For ONE HOUR either side of high water (so from 10:30 - 12:30) there will be safety boat support, although you can also participate outside of those
    • If you don't want to complete the challenge then you can still just sail with the protection of the safety boat - but try the course, why not?!
    • Results to be published after the event.
    • A perfect way to compete against yourself and other LSC sailors (PY's applied to results).
    • Simple if you want it to be (sail around the cans) - complicated if you want it to be (factor in the tidal flow, wind variation over time, best route etc..)

The course will be published prior to the event on the website.

      You will need :

    • To sign up in advance on the website to ensure we have sufficient safety cover: Sign up form HERE

    • To stay away if you or anyone in your household have any Covid symptoms

    • To arrive ready to sail or get changed in your car/the boatyard - changing rooms are closed, although toilets are open (but not for changing!)

    • To respect government guidelines for Covid prevention at all times - please bring your own sanitiser for personal use
    • Your boat, either single-handed or with crew from your bubble.
    • To be self-sufficient - the safety boat is for emergency support - to maintain distancing there will be limited ability to assist with non-urgent problems.
    • A stopwatch/watch or phone with seconds so you can record your time
    • To be honest !!
    • After the event to enter your name, boat type and time on a form on the website

    Some rules/conditions:
    • Event will only take place if windspeeds are F4 or lower.
If, at 18:00 on evening of 18th July, wind forecast for Langstone Harbour on Windguru for period 10:00-13:00 is above F4, or gusts over F5 then the event will be cancelled.
If the 10-minute average windspeed recorded on the LSC website is above F4 during the event, the event will not start, or finish early.

If the event cannot take place due to the conditions it will be postponed to Saturday 25th July, timing to be confirmed (HW is 16:12 as a guide).
    • Sailors should be self-sufficient and capable and confident to sail in the conditions on the day.
Anybody below RYA level 2 standard (Youth stage 3) should only sail accompanied by a sailor in their bubble who does have that level.
Self-sufficient includes launching and recovery of their dinghy. Thoroughly check your dinghy before launching and seriously consider use of a masthead float if conditions warrant it.
    • Safety cover is provided for emergency support.
The safety boat will be able to assist with capsizes, holding a dinghy head-to-wind while the crew resolve a problem, towing back to the club (sailors remain in dinghy). Safety boat will provide full emergency support - but any breaches of government distancing guidelines will be recorded with the names of those affected and the circumstances and those details held at the club to assist track and trace if required.
If you require rescue you may be towed back to the club or requested to sail back to the club if the safety boat crew believe the conditions are beyond your ability for safe self-sufficient sailing.
    • Government guidelines with respect to distancing and gatherings must be respected at all times on shore - no grouping on the slipway or in the boatpark that exceeds 2 households or 6 people from individual households.
  • Please follow the LSC guidelines for launching and recovery published on the website: LSC Corona Virus Response HERE and LSC Dinghy Guidelines HERE
